Villa La Madonna originates from the 16th century. The vineyard's new owners have great ambitions of realising a dream many people long for. The care of the estate and the vines has been raised to a new level and the love for the wine is as great today as it ever was. With the wonderful Bormida Valley as a backdrop, we harvest our own grapes that surrounds the estate. In our kitchen, we prepare fantastic traditional dishes from Piedmont as well as with inspiration from all of Italy. At Villa La Madonna, you live the life on an Italian vineyard and many destinations for an outing.

The hotel

Villa La Madonna has 16 rooms with 32 beds. All rooms have their own wonderful terrace or balcony with enchanting views across the wine valley and our vineyards. You partake of dinner in our beautiful dining room or in the slightly smaller dining room for private sittings. Our large, wonderful terrace is the meeting point for pleasant company and a glass of wine in the shade. During the warm summer evenings, dinner is served outdoors on the large terrace and cookery courses are held on the small terrace. At Villa La Madonna there are two living rooms and a magnificently furnished wine cellar from the 16th century for wine tastings or a glass of wine before meals. Our large atelier with its terrace is also the perfect place for large dinners, various types of meetings, lectures and similar activities. The view from this terrace is the most beautiful from anywhere at Villa La Madonna. At the heart of the vineyard, there is also a pool of great natural beauty with its own terraces for the optimum relaxation. If you would rather wind down with a good book, the vines will tempt you to read a while in a chair hanging between the grapevines, accompanied by a striking view across the Bormida Valley.

Here, guests will be able to relax and enjoy the fantastic activities, the good food and the tasty wines. Villa La Madonna is the best place for friends and family looking for the perfect small hotel or for those who would like to hire the whole hotel for a large party. Swedish owners

Villa La Madonna is co-owned by the sisters Marie and Annica Eklund. The vineyard was previously in the ownership of Marie's family. Marie and her sister have now taken over the ownership of Villa La Madonna and offer a fantastic experience to all visitors to the wonderful Piedmont area. Away from the estate, Marie and Annica run the successful design company Bolon.

Our wine

At Villa La Madonna, we cultivate the Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes on the beautiful slopes surrounding the estate. These grapes were selected following detailed analysis of the growing conditions in the area, including soil type and location. Our vineyard consists of roughly 65% Barbera and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine production builds on traditions that are centuries old and is conducted in collaboration with a local, well-reputed vineyard. We make approximately 8 000 bottles a year, and our vineyards cover roughly 17,500 sqm. Barbera is the grape cultivated the most in Piedmont and many believe Barbera is one of the most interesting varieties of grape in the Piedmont region. Nevertheless, the most famous variety is the Nebbiolo, the grape that produces the amazing wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. In our own wine cellar, dating from the 16th century, we arrange wine tastings with famous wines from the region.

Piedmont has many vineyards the same size as Villa La Madonna.  The history of our vineyard and its stables (the present atelier and yoga hall) starts back in the 16th century. As the years went by, they started to cultivate grapevines, which today cover all our land around the estate. A few of the estates are now protected by UNESCO as being exceptional due to their underground food cellars dating from the early 16th century. Villa La Madonna is one of these old estates in the Piedmont region, which makes us especially happy and proud.
